Arthur Markham & daughter Joyous on the front lawn of Stuffynwood Hall on the occasion of her first birthday July 1903. Sadly, Arthur died of a sudden heart attack in August 1916 when Joyous was just 14 years old. Joyous died in childbirth aged just 28 in 1931. She became a Polish Countess, the wife of Count Edward Raczynski related to the Hungarian aristocratic House of Hasburgs. During WWII Dr Raczynski represented the Polish Government in exile from his London base. He remained in London after the war eventually becoming the President of Poland in exile in 1979. He was the longest living Head of State in Poland's history, living to the ripe old age of 102.
